It is often said that time flies when you’re having fun. Well, it is almost unbelievable to me, Julie and the small team that put Like the Wind together, that it was seven years ago this week, that we hired a venue in east London and invited anyone who wanted to come to an event to celebrate the launch of Like the Wind. And pick up what is now a very sought after copy of LtW#1.
When we reflect on seven years, it is amazing how much has happened to what started out as a little side project. We have told hundreds of stories. Featured a multitude illustrations and photography. And sold copies to readers around the world. We have hosted events. Attended races. And held our summer party in Chamonix each year.
Most importantly, we have had the opportunity to engage with thousands and thousands of runners, through the printed magazine, online and in person. We have come to realise that the community of runners who love stories as much as we do, is the most important element of what we do.
And most excitingly we know that the work has only just started. The Like the Wind family continues to grow. And with more readers, we are able to tell more stories. As every issue is completed we find ourselves with ever more excited by the opportunities to work with writers, illustrators, photographers and runners who don’t consider themselves to be storytellers and yet have a tale to tell.
So thank you to everyone who has contributed to the last seven years. It has been a privilege to be able to tell the stories and share the art that we have. And we are more excited than ever to build on what we have achieved so far. Here’s to the next seven years.
Thank you again,
Simon, Julie and the LtW Team
Competition: Win A Copy of Our First Edition
As part of our birthday celebrations, we have decided to open the safe and offer one lucky person a free copy of Like the Wind’s first edition.
When we launched the magazine a mixture of limited finances and trepidation meant that we only printed 1,000 copies. Our fear that we might not sell any was unfounded and before we knew it, we were down to only one box left. That box went into the archives and we are very protective of the few copies we have left. However, for a very special occasion – such as our 7th birthday – we have decided to run a competition where one person can win a copy of LtW#1.
To enter the competition all you have to do is tell us which story in Like the Wind has been your favourite and why. You can enter any time up to midnight GMT on Sunday 7 February.
This is how to enter the competition;
- Go to our Instagram or Twitter pages and comment on the competition posts you will find there
- Post on your own Instagram or Twitter feeds, telling us which story is your favourite, tagging @likethewindmag and using the hashtag #whywerun so we can find the posts
- Upload a video to YouTube and send us a link.
- Or simply drop us a line and tell us which story has been your favourite.
We will pick a winner after the competition closes on 7 February, based on our favourite entry, and contact the winner directly to arrange delivery of the prize.
Complete Your Collection of LtW or Treat a Fellow Runner
One of the wonderful aspects of Like the Wind is how timeless the stories are. So whether you are reading the 6th or 26th edition, the stories are equally moving, inspiring, entertaining and motivating.
To celebrate our birthday, we are giving you the chance to add to your collection or perhaps buy copies for a runner in your life, at a special price.
For the next 7 days, you can buy any copy we have in stock (excluding the most recent three editions) for a special price – £4 / $5.50 – or less for some editions.
You don’t need to do anything to access this offer – simply go to the shop where the prices have already been reduced and fill your basket. We’d encourage you to also share this offer with anyone you know who might be interested in Like the Wind.
Please note, this offer is only for our birthday celebrations between 5 February 2021 and 12 February 2021. And it is only available whilst we still have magazines in stock. So don’t delay if you want to take advantage.
