Back in 2014, when no one had heard of super shoes and marathon queen Tigst Assefa was a young track star, Like the Wind published its first issue, bringing long-form, beautifully illustrated storytelling about running to a global audience.
A decade later, and we celebrate our 10th birthday with not one, but two magazines: issue 39 and a bonus issue 40, which looks back at developments in our sport since 2014.

Subscribers to Like the Wind will receive an extra treat this month: an additional magazine, issue 40, marking our 10 years on the planet. (Don’t worry if you’re not a subscriber – you can purchase issue 40 as a standalone magazine… although subscriptions support the future of Like the Wind.)
In issue 40, we take a look at some of the most important issues in running in the past 10 years and ask “What’s changed… and what’s next?”
- Black Lives Matter: how far does our sport have to go to become truly representative of the global population?
- Women in running: speaking to six pioneering voices about our sport’s stance on recognising female athletes
- Super shoes: carbon plate, special foam… what we put on our feet has really transformed since 2014
- Record breakers: are records important to running’s popularity and success? And when will that sub-two-hour marathon happen in an organised race?
- Story time: well-known runners and the Like the Wind team choose their favourite stories from the past decade
It’s why we run.
PS: for each tree that is used in making the magazine, we will plant 3 trees. We’re doing this via Active Giving who are partnering with the Eden Reforestation Project. We’re also donating 1% of every sale paid by credit card to the Stripe Climate Pledge – which funds carbon removal projects.
